"We hope to hear good news from Pyongyang soon," second deputy minister for Culture, sports and tourism of South Korea Park Jong-gil said

SEOUL, June 18 (Itar-Tass) - South Korea has invited North Korea to attend the 17th Asian Games that will take place in South Korea’s Incheon next year, the Yonhap news agency said on Tuesday.

“We have sent an invitation to North Korea via the Olympic Council of Asia, but have received no response so far,” said Park Jong-gil, the second vice minister for  culture, sports and tourism. “But we hope to hear good news from Pyongyang soon. We also conveyed our hope for inviting not only athletes, but also their supporters.”

In early June Incheon Mayor Song Young-gil made an official request to the OCA president and the FIFA vice-president to cooperate in inviting North Korea to the Games.
