MOSCOW, June 17 (Itar-Tass) - Russia hopes to continue cooperation with Iran with newly-elected President Hassan Rouhani in order to ensure global security, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.
"Elections were held on June 14, and already the first round made clear the results, - the diplomat said. – The voting of the citizens was very active, turnout was 73 percent ". According to official figures, he continued, Hassan Rouhani won a convincing victory by a wide margin.
“We respect the choice of the Iranian people, we proceed from the principles of time-tested relations of friendship and cooperation”, Lukashevich said. Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Rouhani.
