MOSCOW, June 17 (Itar-Tass) - Acting Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin on Monday filed his documents with the Moscow City Election Commission to be registered as a self-nominee candidate to Moscow mayor.
To be registered as a self-nominee, he will have to collect as many as 73,021 signatures of Moscow’s voters and at least one signature of lawmakers in 110 out of 146 municipal formations in the Russian capital city. The documents are to be submitted by July 10.
Thus, Sobyanin is the ninth candidate to file documents with the Moscow City Election Commission. On Saturday, the Moscow City Election Commission received documents of Sergei Mitrokhin who is seeking to run for Moscow mayor with the opposition party Yabloko, Alexei Navalny, a candidate nominated by the party RPR-PARNAS, and Mikhail Degtyarev, nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR). Last week, the commission received documents from rock singer Sergei “Spider” Troitsky, Svetlana Peunova, the leader of the party Volya, Ivan Karpushkin, the director general of one of the Moscow-based companies, and Alexei Denisov, who has no current employment. The first to file his documents, on June 11, was Igor Suzdaltsev, a deputy director general of Kalita Finance Co.
Early direct elections of the Moscow mayor will be held in the capital city on September 8. These will be the first direct polls in the past ten years.
