Svetlana Zhurova appointed First Deputy Head of Duma International Affairs Committee

The place has been vacant since March when Zhurova’s predecessor Vyacheslav Nikonov was appointed Head of Duma Education Committee

MOSCOW, June 17. /ITAR-TASS /. Svetlana Zhurova will take office of First Deputy Head of Duma International Affairs Committee, according to the today’s decision of the Presidium of the parliamentary faction of United Russia.

As told by the faction’s spokesperson, the candidacy of the Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova was approved unanimously.

The place of the First Deputy Head of the committee has been vacant since March when Zhurova’s predecessor Vyacheslav Nikonov was appointed Head of Duma Education Committee.

Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova was a member of the State Duma of the fifth convention in 2007-2011, having passed to the lower house in the federal list of United Russia. Working in the Duma, she had been a member of committees for family, children and women affairs, for sports, for youth, as well as for education and culture. In the Federation Council Zhurova has worked as representative of the Government of the Kirov region for almost a year - since 15 March 2012.
