SOFIA, June 16 (Itar-Tass) - About 8,000 people gathered for an antigovernment meeting in downtown Sofia Sunday night, fully blocking traffic on a number of streets.

The main slogans the protesters chanted was ‘Down with the BSP’ /the Bulgarian Socialist Party/.

Participants in the action proceeded in a column from Independence Square where the building of the Presidential Administration and the Offices of the Government are located towards the People’s Assembly, the national parliament.

The march had an entirely peaceful character and many people had brought their children along with them.

Antigovernment actions were also held in two other biggest cities, Varna and Plovdiv. About a thousand people protested against the policies of the new government on the central street in Varna and about a thousand took to the streets in Plovdiv.

Mass actions of protest started across Bulgaria June 14 after appointment of an MP representing the political party of the Turkish ethnic minority to the post of director of the State Service of National Security.

Although the man, Delyan Peevski, agreed to renounce acceptance of the post the protests continue rolling through Bulgaria’s largest cities.
