Ukraine to increase gas production to 30 bln cubic meters over ten years - PM

KIEV, June 15 (Itar-Tass) - Ukraine plans to increase its own production of natural gas to 30 billion cubic meters over five to ten years to come, Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov told a news conference on Friday.

“The production of 30 billion cubic meters of gas will make the country self-sufficient,” he said, adding that in the longer term Kiev would be able to increase the export of that raw material.

Last year natural gas production in Ukraine fell by 1.1 percent in contrast to the level of 2011 to 19.3 billion cubic meters. Ukraine’s gas consumption in 2012 was reduced by 7.6 percent to 54.7 billion cubic meters.
