Green Alliance leader to run for Moscow mayor

Gleb Fetisov sais he will be officially nominated on June 22

MOSCOW, June 14 (Itar-Tass) - The leader of the Green Alliance - People’s Party, Gleb Fetisov, told Tass on Friday that he intends to run for Moscow mayor.

He said his nomination will proceed in two stages - an extraordinary party conference will begin on June 15, and then it will be transferred to June 22, which is necessary to avoid the violation of the party charter.

“I will be officially nominated for Moscow mayor on June 22. I have settled the foreign assets matter, or what was left, to be more exact,” Fetisov said.

Fetisov also said he does not give up on his participation in the election of the Moscow region governor. “The nomination for that post will also take place on June 22,” he said.

“I believe that as a candidate for mayor and governor I will get a unique chance to present to the voters of the two regions a single strategy for the development of Moscow and the Moscow region as a single social-economic conglomerate,” the party leader stressed.

He specified that the election campaign in Moscow and the region will be single. He maintains that this does not run counter to the legislation.

“Our lawyers have looked into that thoroughly: the law allows the participation of one and the same candidate in two (different) election campaigns simultaneously,” he added.

Fetisov plans to put the main focus of his election campaign on the development of local administration and environmental protection.

It was reported earlier that the Green Alliance planned to nominate for Moscow mayor the chairman of its central council, Oleg Mitvol.
