MOSCOW, June 14. /ITAR-TASS/. The Moscow City Election Commitee (Mosgorizbirkom) has accepted today the papers from the first candidate for Moscow mayor from a political party - the head of Volya party from Samara Svetlana Peunova, as communicated the commitee to ITAR-TASS agency.
Apart from Svetlana Peunova the documents were filed today by 33-year-old Ivan Karpushkin, CEO of one of the enterprises in Moscow. He is set to participate in the elections as an independent candidate.
The first to file documents to the registration in Mosgorizbirkom on June 11 was deputy CEO of the financial group Kalita-Finans Igor Suzdaltsev.
Direct pre-term elections of the mayor of Moscow are planned for September 8. They will be the first mayoral elections in the Russian capital in 10 years.
First candidate from a party - who is she?
It's not the first time for Peunova to file documents in election commitees. In 2012 Peunova tried to run for presidency but then she coudn't collect the necessary amount of signatures needed for the registration in the Central Election Commitee. That time head of Volya party had explained that in the designated 20 days it was impossible to collect the essential 2 mln signatures in a legal way and threatened to check out with the assistance of the Investigation Committee those candidates that have succeeded.
In 2011, Peunova had also appealed to the Investigation Commitee. The politic highlited that Russia's management - Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev - have performed acts that led to forced changes to Constitution in Russia.
However, on the official website of the Investigation Commitee there's no information about any applications from Svetlana Peunova.
Who else to run the elections
Big political figures are also preparing to register their candidates. Yesterday the Yabloko party has approved its candidate, which, as expected, is the leader of the political party Sergei Mitrokhin. The ex-head of Yabloko Grigory Yavlinsky has withdrawn of candidacy in his favour, presenting Mitrokhin as a 'wonderful person'.
The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) hasn't made a decision upon its candidate yet. Previously it was supposed that it would be the first deputy of the party's Duma fraction Vladimir Ovsyannikov, but later LDPR has changed Ovsyannikov for member of the Duma Mikhail Degtyarev, the author of the law about school uniform standarts.
Today RPR-PARNAS is to name its candidate. The Moscow office of the party proposes Alexei Navalny as candidate, but not all the members are content with this candidature.
The Communists are going to approve as candidate the first deputy speaker of Duma Ivan Melnikov..
Some of the possible candidates have given up not even started. Thus, yesterday the leader of Civic Platform party Mikhail Prokhorov has made a statement that he would not participate in the mayoal elections, still promised to 'take the Duma'. The politic is set to run for Moscow City Duma as an independent candidate in a year. The contradictors of Prokhorov link his decision to the unability of closing foreign accounts in time as required by Russian legislation. Prokhorov himself indirectly acknowledged this fact.
Each of the potential participants admits that they will have to compete mainly with Sergei Sobyanin, not with each other. Sobyanin has been in office 2.5 years then quit to run for pre-term elections.
