3 opposition parties to put up single candidate in Moscow mayoral election

The Moscow branch of RPR-PARNAS is expected on June 14 to nominate Alexei Navalny its candidate to the post of city mayor

MOSCOW, June 13 (Itar-Tass) - Three Opposition parties - RPR-PARNAS, People's Alliance and December 5 - have decided to pool efforts in the Moscow mayoral election and the election to the Moscow Duma.

The Moscow branch of RPR-PARNAS is expected on June 14 to nominate Alexei Navalny its candidate to the post of city mayor. Navalny will be the single candidate from the democratic opposition in the early election due in September, the organizations said in a joint statement on Tuesday.

"The single list of the democratic public should be formed on the basis of a clear and transparent procedure. Three parties are beginning to work out such rules and urge civil activists to take part in joint efforts to form a consolidated list and draw a program of the election bloc," the statement said.

The three Opposition parties believe that the "the image of the future city administration and real positive changes in Moscow will depend on the level of public and political consolidation."
