TBILISI, June 13 (Itar-Tass) - The Georgian Interior Ministry stated on Thursday “the attempt at a terrorist act was thwarted at the stage of preparation.” The republican Interior Ministry said in its statement that “two foreign citizens Mikael Kadyev and Rizvan Omarov were detained in Tbilisi at dawn in close cooperation between the Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General’s Office.”
“In the search at their temporary residence place a large number of strong explosives, presumably plastid, and electric detonators, as well as firearms, ammunition and false documents were found and confiscated,” the ministry reported.
It is not reported yet the citizens of what country the detainees are. The Interior Ministry stated that “at this stage the investigators found reliably that Kadyev, who has been wanted by the Interpol since 2011, was hiding in Georgia, though he left the country from time to time.”
“Intensive investigating and search measures are being taken to find the connections of the detainees in masterminding a terrorist act,” particularly the search and detention of all those who assisted and abetted to the detainees,” the ministry stated. “These measures are being taken in Georgia and within international anti-terrorism cooperation, because the law enforcement agencies from a Western European country detained a criminal back in 2012 that together with Kadyev was involved in the crime, which was committed in another country,” the ministry reported.
