Kudrin urges RF government to revise law on non-profit organisations

"Here we face certain irrationality: the proposal on cooperation in the G20 and restrictions against Russia’s non-commercial organisations," ex-Finance Minister said

MOSCOW, June 13 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s former Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin, speaking at the Civil G20 forum in Moscow on Thursday, urged the Russian government to revise the law on the non-commercial organisations - “foreign agents.”

“The Civil G20 has gathered here and we are talking about the creation of joint working groups for the study of common problems,” he stated. But, according to Kudrin, “this work will be called a foreign agent.”

“It is a humiliating name for us, and here we face certain irrationality: the proposal on cooperation in the G20 and restrictions against Russia’s non-commercial organisations,” said the former minister. In his view, the revision of the adopted law on the non-commercial organisations - “foreign agents” would be a good conclusion of Russia’s presidency of the Group of Twenty.

Another forum participant - Chairman of the RF Presidential Council for Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights Mikhail Fedotov, for his part also stressed the need to introduce adjustments to the law. However, he emphasised that this issue will not be discussed at the meeting of the Civil G20.

“We will not discuss these problems at the Civil G20 forum, because it’s our internal affair after all,” Fedotov said.
