TOKYO, June 13 (Itar-Tass) - Japan's prime-minister Shinzo Abe has made a decision to allocate approximately $10 million in aid to people in Syria's areas that are under the control of subversive forces. The funds will be used primarily for the needs of refugees, Japanese government sources reported on Thursday. The prime-minister is to oficcially announce his decision at the forthcoming meeting of the G8, due to be held in Britain from June 17 to 18.
At the same time Tokyo is working over the issue of granting a low-interest credit in the amount of circa $100 million to Jordan which has received a large number of refugees from Syria. According to Tokyo's estimates, their aggregate number in Jordan, as well as in Turkey, already exceeds 1.5 million. Earlier Japan has donated about $80 million in aid to those people through UN agencies and other international organizations.
On Tuesday Tokyo announced that it would act in Syria exclusively in the humanitarian field. Thus, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told journalists that Tokyo considers the provision of aid only in those areas where Japanese supplies could not be used for military purposes.
