VIENNA, June 11 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, who’s paying an official visit to Austria, said on Monday that Russia was concerned with facts of falsification of WWII history in Western Europe.
"Falsification of history is a very sensitive theme for us. We are greatly alarmed by attempts to glorify Nazism and create new pro-Nazi parties, “ Matviyenko said at a ceremony of exchanging instruments of ratification for the handover of the Esterhazy book collection to Austria.
Matviyenko noted that the Austrian authorities had “an adequate approach” to WWII history as she met Barbara Prammer, the president of the National Council of Austria.
"I know that Austria recognizes the decisive contribution of the Soviet people to the defeat of fascism and condemns any manifestations of Nazi ideology, including marches of Wafer SS veterans in the Baltic States,” Matvienko emphasized.
She hopes that Austrian politicians and historians will take an active part in a conference devoted to the WWII period in October 2013.
