ROSTOV-ON-DON, June 8 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s national team will be fighting for victories in 20 of 27 kinds of sports at the Universiade, due in Kazan on July 6-17, Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko said during his business trip to Rostov-on-Don on Saturday.
The national team’s maximum task is to be a team winner, he said. The country’s main competitors would be the Chinese and the Americans, and “the fight will be tough.”
“This is a home Universiade, and we have done a lot to organise it, have made big investments, built the infrastructures,” the minister said. “Kazan now looks like a centre of the world’s sports; it may be compared with Moscow or St. Petersburg.”
Prior to the world’s football cup in 2018, Russia will host about 40 major international competitions, Mutko said
