Moscow City Duma says mayoral election due Sept 8

MOSCOW, June 7 (Itar-Tass) - Moscow’s City Duma scheduled for September 8 the early direct election of mayor. The decision was supported by 26 out of 28 votes.

On Wednesday, President Vladimir Putin accepted resignation of Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and ordered him to continue fulfilling obligations of the city’s top official till early election. On Tuesday, Moscow’s Public Camber initiated early mayoral election on the country’s single voting day on September 8. Sobyanin agreed with the suggestion and filed a resignation to the president, and informed the president on his intention to run for the position of Moscow’s mayor.

On Thursday, the Moscow Region’s Duma also supported organisation of the region’s governor election on the single voting day on September 8.
