Drummer Joey Covington dies in road crash in California

LOS ANGELES, June 7 (Itar-Tass) - Joey Covington, 67, drummer of the legendary rock group "Jefferson Airplane" has died in a road accident in Palm Springs, California.

The USA Today edition reported on Thursday that the rocker's car Honda Civic went flying onto the roadside of the expressway and crashed into a retaining wall. Covington, who was at the wheel without his seat belt fastened died instantly. Police are busy finding out the circumstances of the tragedy.

The musician had played with the Group from 1969 to 1972. The Jefferson Airplane became widely known due to the compositons "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love".

The drummer's admirers were shocked by the news. Hundreds of people have been posting words of condolence on his page in the Facebook.
