BISHKEK, June 6 (Itar-Tass) - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has approved resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Atakhanov.
Atakhanov, who was in charge of law enforcement policies in the government, filed a resignation letter on Thursday.
“I resigned voluntarily,” he told reporters. “A team of like-minded persons should work in the government and teamwork approach is especially necessary for resolving complex issues and critical situations.”
“Any leader should protect his team and listen to its advice and when this does not happen, there is no sense to work alone,” he said.
Several days ago Prime Minister Jantoro Satybaldiev sent Atakhanov to normalize the situation in the Dzheti-Oguz district, northern Kyrgyzstan, where the government imposed a state of emergency to protect Centerra Gold’s Kumtor mine from protesters. Villagers put forward a list of demands to Canada’s Centerra Gold that operates the mine varying from investments into infrastructure projects to the financing of social programmes. A state of emergency was lifted there on June 3.
On Wednesday Atambayev also appointed Busurmankul Tabaldiyev as new chairman of the National Security Committee.
