MOSCOW, June 5 (Itar-Tass) - The Moscow City Court on Wednesday upheld the arrest in absentia of director of Hermitage Capital Management William Browder in the Gazprom shares fraud case.
Browder is accused of failing to pay more than 552 million roubles o taxes.
The investigators said his objective was to enter the gas monopoly and secure influence upon it.
He illegally obtained a package of Gazprom shares and insisted that the company amend its charter and reshuffle its audit commissions and the board of directors, according to the investigators.
Prosecutors said the criminal prosecution of Browder is effected in absentia because he refuses to report to the investigators, while Great Britain where he resides, declined to cooperate with Russia in this issue.
