RST urges tour operators to change flight dates to Czech Republic at tourists’ request

MOSCOW, June 3 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Union of Travel Industry (RST) urges tour operators to change flight dates to the Czech Republic, which was hit by flash floods, spokesperson Irina Shchegolkova told Itar-Tass on Monday.

“We’ve prepared letters to tour operators to send them shortly. We urge them to meet tourists’ requests and change flight dates without any fines,” Shchegolkova said.

She noted, “The Russian Union of Travel Industry has sent an address to the Russian Foreign Ministry related to the situation in the Czech Republic.” “Till now the ministry has not given any recommendations. Thus, if a tourist refuses to fly to the Czech Republic, he will lose money. We urge tour operators to meet tourists’ requests,” the spokesperson added.

She said, “The situation in the Czech Republic is that: on the one hand, tour operators say Russian tourists continue their rest without any difficulties. On the other hand, they say the Russian Union of Travel Industry receives many calls from tourists, who are planning to fly to the Czech Republic in the closest time. Metro stations are closed in Prague. Highways are shut off. People don’t know how they should reach any place.”

The Association of Tour Operators of Russia say about 1,000 Russian tourists can rest in the Czech Republic. “All is well,” the Association’s executive director, Maya Lomidze, told Itar-Tass.

Friday’s heavy rains in the Czech Republic led to the flood. The third danger level was declared in 40 cities, including Prague. The city authorities issued an order to place barriers along the Vltava River. Nine metro stations were closed in Prague. Highway traffic was stopped.

Three people died and three persons are considered missing.

According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, it will rain till the evening.
