MOSCOW, May 30 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Federal Security Service FSB does not rule out militants involved in the armed conflict in Syria might try to migrate into Russia, the deputy chief of the FSB’s first service, Alexander Roshchupkin, said in parliamentary hearings on Thursday.
He pointed out that the analysis of materials concerning illegal migration had allowed for identifying several groups of threats.
“First and foremost, there is the terrorist threat. Also, we expect that in connection with the armed conflicts unfolding in Syria, the effects of the Arab Spring may cause certain effects on the movement of militants via illegal migration channels.”
He said another group of threats was related with the creation of conditions for undermining Russia’s state system by secret services and foreign organizations connected with them.
“There has been confirmed evidence the secret services of foreign states use illegal migration channels for intelligence and subversive activities to the detriment of Russia’s security. The most important thing is career secret service officers and their agents are documented here with the use of corruption connections for performing their tasks,” Roshchupkin said.
Also, certain threats of the security of the country are posed by destructive forces and foreign non-governmental organizations that actively use migration themes to the detriment of Russia’s interests as an extra leverage and for attempts to destabilize the situation in the country.
