MOSCOW, May 29 (Itar-Tass) - The "Open Government" will continue to work with Sergei Guriev despite his resignation as rector of the Russian economic school, Minister for Open Government Affairs Mikhail Abyzov said on Wednesday.

"Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and I, as the minister responsible for the operation of the "Open Government"' system give a high valuation of Sergei Guriev's contribution to the work of the expert council under the Russian government," Abyzov said, "his highly professional expert support and an active and concerned civil position always help work out balanced decisions on most difficult issues discussed within the format of the Open Government. Such work by representatives of the expert community is very important and necessary for the Cabinet."

"I'm sure that we'll continue our cooperation with Sergei Guriev despite the decision; regardless of whether or not he formally remains a member of the expert council and the government commission. We'll discuss it with him shortly. For me, he remains a close friend and associate, which is far more important than formal statuses," the minister said.

Earlier, academic sources said after Guriev's request to take out his candidacy for the observer council of Savings Bank, he also resigned as rector of the Russian economic school which he had headed since 2004.
