MOSCOW, May 28 (Itar-Tass) - City police detained members of an ethnic gang suspected of theft of money from ATMs in Moscow region, the Interior Ministry's press center told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The wrongdoers stole ATMs and took them away in cars, and then broke them open and took the money. They had been operating for four months.

"In the course of a sting operation, the leader and four members of the gang - all natives of Armenia - were detained in northern Moscow. A court sanctioned their arrest," the Interior Ministry said.

Searches at the suspects' apartments found tools for breaking open ATMs, police uniforms, masks and a non-lethal pistol. The identities of two other members of the gang who are still at large have been ascertained.
