GROZNY, May 27 (Itar-Tass) - The visiting meeting of the Club of Editors-in-Chief of the leading Russian media in Grozny on Monday turned out to be the longest in the Club’s history. Editors-in-chief of newspapers, magazines, TV channels and radio stations, just over 30 people, were invited to the Chechen capital, Grozny, by head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.
He suggested that even thorny issues should be raised and promised not to be evasive. A candid, direct dialogue lasted for four and a half hours. It was about the present day of Chechnya, its place in Russia, the road the republic covered in the construction of peaceful and safe life and about relations between the authorities and the press.
“The Chechen people have made their choice. We will be with Russia and we will firmly uphold its unity,” Kadyrov said at the end of the conversation.
Leaders of the Russian media then met with teachers and students of Grozny University.
During a bus tour they saw structures newly built in Grozny and in Gudermes. They also inspected the Ahmat-Arena stadium where the Moscow-based club CSKA and the Makhachkala Anzhi will play the Russian Football Cup Final on June 1.
Kadyrov promised that the game would be excellently organized but confessed that he would root for the neighbors, the Dagestani club.
