MOSCOW, May 24 (Itar-Tass) - The light seismic tremours that were felt in Moscow and other Russian regions were consequences of the seven-point-magnitude earthquake that took place on the junction of the Pacific and Eurasian lithospheric plates at a depth of about 600 km, the head of the situational centre of the Roshydromet hydro-meteorological service, Yuri Varakin, told Itar-Tass.

Seismic events of 7.3 maximum magnitude took place at a great depth -- about 600 km at 09:47 Moscow time, 16:47 Sakhalin time, he said.

The space monitoring data confirm the information. The earthquake occurred on the junction of the Pacific and Eurasian lithospheric plates. It was accompanied by a series of lighter quakes not so deep at the boundaries of the plates. There are no exact data on the quakes, but their magnitude did not exceed 4.0-6.0.

The tremours in Moscow measured 1.0-1.5, according to the Roshydromet centre. It created no threat for the city and the population.

A hotline is opened in the Russian Emergencies Ministry's Moscow department in connection with the earth tremours in the capital from the Far Eastern quake, a department source said.

The hotline is working for Muscovites and guests of the capital to receive information and consultations on all the issues connected with the seismic events, which were caused by the Far Eastern quake, the source told Itar-Tass.

According to the Geophysical Service of the RAS in Obnisk, the quake in Moscow measured 2.0-3.0.

Given the fact that the quake was felt on upper floors, its power measured 2-3 points, said the head of the data processing department of the Geophysical Service, Marina Kolomiyets.

A light quake was felt in Moscow on Friday morning, as was reported earlier.

Calls were received from citizens who felt earth tremours, a Moscow police source said.

For safety reasons, 150 people were evacuated from an apartment building at Lesnaya Street, and 750 people were evacuated from the neighboring building occupied by an office of the Ingosstrakh insurance company, the source said.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry's city department confirmed the information that calls were received from Muscovites about the tremours.

According to the Moscow police press service, more than ten such calls were registered in the morning.

The tremours were caused by the earthquake in the Sea of Okhotsk, the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s spokeswoman Irina Rossius told Itar-Tass. There was no threat to the population, she said. The quakes were felt in other Russian regions as well. There was no threat to the population, transport and the social infrastructure, she added.
