MOSCOW, May 23 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Public Television will be showing only the best films made domestically, PRT General Director Anatoly Lysenko told a news conference on Thursday.
He also explained there would be no foreign movies on the newly-founded TV channel because “this is Russia’s Public Television, and not Italian or French, whatever respect I may feel towards the French cinema and Italian cinema in particular.”
“I just believe this is not our function,” Lysenko said.
“The PRT will be showing good Russian films, which are so scarce on television these days,” he said.
The PRT will not launch film-making production of its own, in contrast to some other channels.
“We shall offer our own newscasts, education programs about science, life in the provinces and volunteer organizations,” Lysenko promised.
The decree to establish Russia’s Public Television was signed in April 2012. The channel went on the air on May 19.
