MOSCOW, May 22 (Itar-Tass) - Number of people who received injuries as a result of a micro-tornado in the town of Yefremov in the Tula region some 300 km to the south of Moscow has reached twenty, a spokesman for the regional branch of the Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense /EMERCOM/ told Itar-Tass.

“Updated information suggests that twenty people, among them three children, suffered as a result of calamity in the town of Yefremov,” he said. “They received bruises and incised wounds. Also, a woman has been hospitalized.”

In the meantime, EMERCOM said 179 residential houses had sustained damage in the downtown and southern districts of Yefremov, as the gale blew out window glass and ripped off roofing sheets.

Along with the dwelling houses, damage has been done to five schools, two kindergartens, nine administrative buildings, and eighteen stores.

Dozens of trees and light posts have fallen down.

“There are no plans to evacuate local residents from the districts that have been affected, as the works to eliminate the aftermath of the calamity are in full swing at the moment,” the spokesperson said.

“Specialized teams of rescuers from neighboring Lipetsk and Oryol regions have been dispatched to Yefremov” to help the Tula region rescuers put the situation in the town back to normal as soon as possible.

EMERCOM also said somewhat earlier it was building up the grouping of rescuers and technical workers in Yefremov.

“More than 700 men and about 140 units of technology are involved in the operation right on the spot,” the spokesman said.
