Number of salmonellosis cases grows to 77 in Chelyabinsk region

61 adults and 11 children are in hospitals of the city

YEKATERINBURG, May 22 (Itar-Tass) - The number of patients hospitalized with salmonellosis in Russia’s Chelyabinsk region has grown to 77, spokeswoman for the Chelyabinsk city healthcare department, Maria Petrova, told Tass on Wednesday. She said 61 adults and 11 children are in hospitals of the city.

“They are all in a moderately grave but stable condition. Two patients who were in a grave condition have been moved from intensive therapy wards to ordinary wards,” she said.

So, according to updated reports, 77 people have been infected with salmonellosis in the region, including 14 children. Medics don’t rule out that this figure may grow.

An outbreak of salmonellosis was fixed in the Chelyabinsk region on May 18-19. According to preliminary data, people got poisoned with pastry made by a Kopeisk-based company. Production at the facility was suspended. About 30 kilograms of cream puffs were removed from sale at 12 outlets in Chelyabinsk. A criminal case was opened.
