SOCHI, May 22 (Itar-Tass) - The 9th International congress on winter sports, tourism, and outdoor activities will begin here on Wednesday with a plenary session dedicated to mass sports in Russia. The congres is to be held at the Krasnya Polyana mountain skiing resort where ski competitions will take place during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
Organizers have told Itar-Tass that the themes of profitability of the sports facilities and the use of ice arenas and mountain skiing resorts will be raised at the forum; participants will also discuss legislative acts and initiatives in the field of downhill skiing, and matters concerning tourism and information technologies in the industry of winter sports.
Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko pointed out, "The State actively participates in in the onward movement to developn sports in this country, promotes the cultivation of a healthy way of life, invites citizens to go in for sports, and creates favourable conditions to foster sports talents. Sports facilitiea and infrastructure are under construction. The number and quality of enterprises that bring the country's sports infrastructure into being are growing".
Vyacheslav Starshinov, a famous ice hockey player, two-time Olympic winner, and nine-time world champion, Anna Bogaly, two-time Olympic biathlon championess, Assistant Professor at the Physical Training and Sports Chair of Siberian State University of Railways, Dmitry Kurbatov, director in charge of arrangements for and the holding of KHL sports events, Grigory Ariyevich, president of the Union of mountain skiing industry, officials of the Ministries of of Sports and Education, and the Olympstroj state corporatin will be among guests, participants and rapproteurs at the forum this year. A ceremony to present the annual Leaders of Sports Industry awards will be held within the scope of the congress which will run here until May 24.
