MOSCOW, May 20 (Itar-Tass) - A car, which was blasted in Makhachkala, was probably hijacked for a terrorist act, a source in the law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass on Monday.
“According to preliminary reports, the car, which was blasted in Makhachkala, was hijacked especially for a terrorist act. At first a little explosive device went off (a thunder flash or a trotyle block with the power of 200-400 grams of TNT), which was planted between the cars or under the bottom of one of cars. When the law enforcers arrived at the blast site and people gathered there, another more powerful explosive device, which was planted under the parked car VAZ 2108, went off,” the source said.
For his part, senior aide of the head of the Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee in Dagestan Rasul Temirbekov stated that the investigators do not have any suspects in the terrorist act yet. “The owner of the blasted car is being identified,” Temirbekov said.
He earlier noted that, according to preliminary reports, the power of the second detonated bomb was between 40 and 50 kilograms of TNT. “The explosive device was staffed with striking pieces - pieces of metal and screws,” Temirbekov said.
Meanwhile, the republican Interior Ministry noted that, according to the specialists of the expert criminalistic centre of the Dagestani Interior Ministry, the power of explosives has made about 40 kilograms of TNT.
The detectives believe that the booby-trap tactics was used this time. The detectives are investigating who owned the cars. The terrorist act killed four people, injured about 40 people, 35 of them were hospitalized.
