Criminal proceedings initiated against charitable foundation in Yekaterinburg

MOSCOW, May 12 (Itar-Tass) - Criminal proceedings have been initiated in Yekaterinburg against the City without Drugs charitable foundation for illegally keeping a man in its rehabilitation center, a source at the Russian Investigation Committee told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

On May 9, local law enforcers were informed that a 26-year-old young man had been illegally put in a men’s rehabilitation center of the City without Drugs charitable foundation.

“A criminal case has been opened on charges of illegal deprivation of a person of freedom by a group of people by previous concert in accordance with part 2, article 127 of the Russian Penal Code,” the Investigation Committee said.

According to investigators, “the young man was illegally held in the rehabilitation center from April 23 to May 10, 2013.”

“According to preliminary reports, unidentified persons exerted psychological pressure on the young man to force him stay in the rehabilitation center,” the investigators said.

At present, investigators are studying the circumstances of the crime and are trying to identify the persons linked to it.

The City without Drugs foundation is a public organization set up in Yekaterinburg in 1999. Its aim is to fight against drug trafficking and drug addiction. Its founders include Igor Varov, Yevgeny Roizman, Andrei Kabanov and Andrei Sannikov.

The foundation has rehabilitation centers which treat drug addicts without medicaments.
