MOSCOW, May 9 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s State Railway Corporation RZD has issued a warning about possible train delays in the southern Rostov region in the wake of an accident at Belaya Kalitva station where 51 railway tanks skidded off the track.
“The accident involving the coaches of a freight train, which ran off the track at Belaya Kalitva station of the North Caucasus department of the Russian Railways, may cause the delays of four passenger trains,” the RZD said in a press release.
The trains are Novorossiysk-Saratov, Simferopol-Yekaterinburg, Saratov-Novorossiysk, and Yekaterinburg-Simferopol.
Overnight to Thursday, a total of 51 tanks skidded off the track and a part of them caught fire, the area of which reached 1,500 square meters eventually.
The blaze was localized by 05:40 Moscow Standard Time and the open flames were fully extinguished by 05:46.
As a result of the accident, twenty people were injured and eight of them had to be taken to hospital. Also, the accident necessitated the evacuation of 2,700 people living near the spot where the coaches had skidded, the press service of the Rostov region governor said.
