MOSCOW, May 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia will do everything in its power to cut short anyone's willingness to unleash a new war at any time, President Vladimir Putin said in a speech at the annual Victory Day Parade on Red Square.
"We remember only too well what the tragedy of the war means and we'll do everything in our power to cut short anyone's desire to unleash a new war at any time or to threaten our children, our homes, and our land," he said. "We'll continue strengthening security on our planet."
Putin added in this connection that this country will always defend truthful information about the war.
"Let's always remember it was Russia, or the Soviet Union, that frustrated the Nazis' carnivorous plans."
“Our soldiers selflessly defended freedom, independence and their homes,” he went on. “They liberated Europe and scored a victory, the proportions of which have earned an eternal place in history for it.”
“There is no measure for measuring your sacrifices,” he said addressing the veterans. “We’ll always cherish your exploits and will always grieve over those who lost their lives in the battlefield or were tortured to death.”
"Victory in May 1945 was like the sound of a bell proclaiming the start of life without a war," Putin said. "Victory is a sacred symbol of loyalty to the Fatherland."
"Our ancestors mastered the science of winning and these traditions serve as an example for the young generations to follow, and the latter have proved more than once they can defend Russia's sovereignty and interests," he said.
Love for Russia is the main symbol of this sacred kinship, love for one’s own home, for one’s family and “these are the objectives that unite us today,” he said. “It was the same objectives that our people fought for so heroically.”
"We have a duty to live up to the expectations of our great grandfathers and fathers, we must get over all the difficulties and barriers and hand down a flourishing, free and strong Russia to our children," Putin said.
"Glory to the victory and let's enjoy this great holiday," he said.
