PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, April 27 (Itar-Tass) - Russian security services provide help for their colleagues in the United States in the investigation into the act of terror in Boston, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
When asked by commentator Sergei Brilyov in the Saturday News broadcast on Russian Television, why there was such a pause between the two calls, unlike the situation after the September 2001 terrorist attack when the Russian president at the same time expressed condolences and offered help to the U.S. president, Putin said the two tragedies were of various scopes. The scope is different. Hundreds of people died on September 11. The act of terror was of a mass, large-scale character. The present situation is other. Any act of terror, any murder is a heinous crime, but the scopes are various, the president noted.
"We immediately expressed condolences, and later I called, but it was connected really with the investigation and possible joining of our special services to provide help and support for the American colleagues, meaning that some of the information carriers - relatives of the criminals -- are in the territory of the Russian Federation, and such cooperation is established," Putin said.
On April 5, two explosions hit people not far from the finish line of the annual marathon in central Boston, the second blast 12 minutes after the first. Three people died, and more than 260 were injured. The American authorities are sure the attack was organized and committed by the Tsarnayevs brothers -- 26-year-old Tamerlan and 19-year-old Dzhokhar. The older brother was killed in a special operation to seize him, and the younger brother was seriously injured and taken to a Boston hospital. On Friday, Dzhokhar Tsarnayev was transferred to a special prison in Massachusetts.
