Murderer of six people in Belgorod detained - police

MOSCOW, April 23 (Itar-Tass) - The police have detained the man who is suspected of shooting down six persons in Belgorod, a source in the Russian interior ministry told Itar-Tass late on Tuesday.

“Sergei Pomazun was detained in the Belgorod region,” the source said.

The man tried to get out of the city in a freight train car, a spokesman for the interior ministry told Itar-Tass. “Policemen spotted him in a freight car at the Belgorod station when he was trying to get out of the territory cordoned off by the police. When the man saw police officers he attacked them.” The spokesman said. He stabbed a police officer with a knife in the face and in the arm.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Russian Investigations Committee told Itar-Tass, Pomazun will be soon interrogated by investigators.

On Wednesday, court will sanction his arrest.

Pomazun is accused of murdering six people, stealing weapons and munitions. Apart from that, he may face another criminal charge, the use of force against a policeman (article 318 of the Russian Criminal Code).

The man was not wounded while being detained.
