MOSCOW, April 23 (Itar-Tass) – The reports about a mental disorder of Belgorod shooter Sergei Pomazun were not confirmed, the Russian Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“The reports about the mental disorder of the suspect spread in the Internet are not confirmed,” the Investigative Committee reported.
He explained that “the detectives have the information that Pomazun has convictions for the crimes against property and the system of governance that proves that he is sane and the verdicts passed against him were not cancelled.”
Meanwhile, the Investigative Committee noted that a psychological and psychiatric expertise should be conducted to find or not to find a mental disorder in the suspect. “The expertise will be announced after his detention,” the Investigative Committee reported.
The committee also noted that during the interrogation of the father of the suspect “he said that Sergei Pomazun has behaved inadequately recently, showed groundless aggression to the parents and inflicted bodily injuries to them.”
The committee emphasized that they turned twice in the law enforcement agencies over these facts, but the police did not apply any measures against their son.
“The information will be checked in the criminal case,” the committee said.
The detectives found that on Monday afternoon Sergei Pomazun on the wanted list with previous convictions gunned down six people, including two female school students from the hunting rifle.
“It was preliminarily found that on April 22 between 09:00 and 14:00 Pomazun has seized a gun from the father and was driving in the car BMW X5, which also belonged to his father, to the shop Okhta, seeking to steal the weapons. He was shooting in two sellers and a visitor at the shop from the hunting carbine, after that he stole from the shop no less than a gun and went out from the shop,” the Investigative Committee said before. Realizing that the shots were heard in the street and he can be identified, he was shooting in the pedestrians. After this Pomazun got in the parked car and escaped from the crime scene. “Then on the walkway he has made one more gunshot in an accidental pedestrian, who also died at the murder scene,” the committee said.
Pomazun has previous convictions for theft, served a four-year term in prison and was released from the penitentiary only last December.
The days of mourning for the victims of the tragedy are held in Belgorod on Tuesday and on April 24.
