NAZRAN, April 20 (Itar-Tass) - Ingush head Yunus-Bek Yevkurov said he is ready to take part in direct elections scheduled for September 2013.

Speaking at the Congress of Ingush Peoples on Saturday, Yevkurov said, “Direct elections are not anything frightening for him to take part in the election campaign.”

At the same time, he stressed, “One cannot confirm that it is not democratic. This model meets the principles of democracy and has its pluses.”

In addition, Yevkurov said, “The People’s Assembly will take a decision on this issue due to the analysis and experience of previous years and political expediency.”

He said, “If the people, the leadership of the country and my supporters support me, I’m ready to take part in the election whatever model is chosen.”

Yevkurov said, “I worked in the sight of the population. Nothing was done behind someone’s back or in detriment of Ingushetia’s strategic interests. Much has been done, but we have enough unsolved problems.”

Addressing the Congress, Yevkurov said, “There are residents of the republic who will judge. If I’m trusted to be head of the republic, I’ll work hard and energetically for the sake of the Ingush people and for the sake of Great Russia.”
