MOSCOW, April 11 (Itar-Tass) - A new criminal case may be opened against former director of the Defense Ministry's property department Yevgenia Vasilyeva, an official at the Prosecutor General's Office told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
"The case may be opened over land fraud in the Leningrad region, which caused one-billion-rouble damage.
During a check by the main military prosecutor's office, it was ascertained that a specialized company had completed land survey at the Levashovo range in the town of Sertolovo, Vsevolzhsk district, Leningrad region. "The area of the 3,700-hectare range was deliberately cut by 613 hectares," the prosecutor said.
Vasilyeva's friend and subordinate - director of the northwestern property department Larisa Yegorkina - arranged registration of the land area of the range in its truncated version. As a result, part of the Levashovo range was entered in Land Registry as state property, divided into plots and leased or transferred into third-party ownership.
"The illegal actions by Vasilyeva and Yegorkina caused more than one billion rouble damage to the state. The materials of the check were forwarded to military investigation bodies for criminal prosecution of the above officials under Article 285, Part 3 of Russia's Criminal Code /abuse of office powers which resulted in grave consequences," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
