MOSCOW, April 10 (Itar-Tass) - A former Russian deputy agriculture minister and his two accomplices have been detained on suspicion of stealing more than 1.1 billion roubles from Rosagroleasing, the press service of the Interior Ministry's main department for economic security and combating corruption /GUEBiPK/ told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
"The former minister and his accomplices have been detained as suspects; their arrest is under consideration," an Interior Ministry officials said. He declined to name the suspects.
"The case concerns the theft of budget bunds allocated to Rosagroleasing to develop and maintain agriculture in the Voronezh region," according to the Interior Ministry.
The scheme was implemented in 2008 through 2009 by signing contracts to supply high-tech sunflower oil production equipment to agribusinesses that were under suspects' control. "The budget funds were transferred to settlement accounts of affiliated organizations and cashed. Simultaneously, the wrongdoers drew fictitious documents on alleged supplies," police said.
