NIZHNY NOVGOROD, April 10 (Itar-Tass) - Ground subsided in Buturlino Township, Nizhny Novgorod Region, at about 02:00 on Wednesday, resulting in a crater with a diameter of 40 m at first and up to14 m deep. Thirty-three people were evacuated from nearby private houses within a randius of 100 metres, the regional center of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (RME) reported.
All the evacuees were accommodated at the Buturlino secondary school.
According to RME data, the diameter of the dip increased up to 85 m shortly after that, with three buildings sliding into it: one non-residential building, one country house, and an unused grain storage.
A session of the Commission for Emergencies and Fire-Prevention Measures is under way. The site of the ground subsidence has been cordoned off.
