MOSCOW, March 29 (Itar-Tass) – President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to revive Russia’s Hero of Labour award, the Kremlin press service reported on Friday.

Under the decree, the rank will be awarded “to raise the prestige of selfless and conscientious labour. It will be given to Russian citizens for special labour merits before the state and the people related to the achievements in the state, public and economic activities in order to ensure prosperity of Russia”, the press service said.

The decree approves the rules on the rank of Russia’s Hero of Labour and the description of the sign – the golden medal of Russia’s Hero of Labour, the drawing of the medal, a blank form of a document on giving the title of Russia’s Hero of Labour and a blank form of a certificate of Russia’s Hero of Labour. Under the decree, “if a person is given the rank of Hero of the Russian Federation, a bronze bust with the corresponding signature is set”.

A proposal to revive the Hero of Labour award has been put forth by one of the participants in the conference of the All-Russian People’s Front that gathered in Rostov on Don on Friday. Putin backed this idea. “In the Soviet Union there was the Hero of Socialist Labour award. In my view, this award proved its value,” Putin said.
