LONDON, March 26 (Itar-Tass) – A post-mortem forensic examination of the body of the former Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky that was carried out Sunday by a pathologist at the Home Office showed that “the cause of his death is consistent with hanging”, the Thames Valley police said in a statement late night Monday.
Berezovsky, once an extremely powerful captain of Russian business and an influential politician who lived in a self-imposed exile in Britain since the early 2000’s, was found dead in the bathroom of his estate in Mill Lane, Ascot, Saturday afternoon. He was 67 years old.
The police statement said however that the pathologist had found nothing “to indicate a violent struggle.”
“Further tests will now be carried out, including toxicology and histology examinations, the results of which are likely to take several weeks,” the statement said.
“A forensic examination of property in Ascot, which is being carried out by the Scenes of Crime Officers, will continue for several days and a cordon will remain in place until these have been completed,” it said.
