BRUSSELS , March 18 (Itar-Tass) - President of the European Council (EC) Herman Achille Van Rompuy, 65, stated Sunday that he would quit politics at the end of 2014.
"The end of 2014 will be the finish of my presidential term and conclusion of my political career," Rompuy told the Belgian television channel VRT in an interview.
The former Premier of Belgium has been heading the EC since January 1, 2010. Last year, his mandate for EC presidency was extended until November 30, 2014.
