Those who want Assad to go put geopolitics above end to violence -- Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister also stressed that arming the Syrian opposition would be a violation of international law

LONDON, March 13 (Itar-Tass) – Those who want Syrian President Bashar al-Assad before the start of the Syrian dialogue put geopolitical goals above the end to violence in the country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday, March 13, after the first meeting of the Russian-British Strategic Dialogue in the “2+2” format.

“We urge the opposition to appoint negotiators as soon as possible,” he added.

Lavrov also stressed that arming the Syrian opposition, directly or indirectly, would be a violation of international law.
