Group of weapon traffickers destroyed in Kabardino-Balkaria

Four gunmen were killed after they offered armed resistancen, another eight gangsters have been detained

MOSCOW, March 12 (Itar-Tass) – The National Antiterrorist Committee said a group of weapon traffickers has been destroyed in Kabardino-Balkaria.

"On March 11-12, the Federal Security Service, in cooperation with police, conducted a special operation to neutralize a regional criminal group which had been supplying weapons to the militants in the region.

"During the search operation, the security bodies ascertained the addresses and whereabouts of members of the above group and launched the operation. The regime of antiterrorist operation was launched in the area in Baksan, where the gunmen had been hiding.

"An FSB special task force units tried to detain the gunmen who were moving in two cars near the village of Grabovets, Prokhladnensky district, and a car near the village of Nizhny Kurp, Tersk district. Four gunmen were killed after they offered armed resistance. They were preliminarily identified as A.Dzagashtov, b.1976, A.Mamreshev, b.1979, A.Tleuzhev, b.1976, who masterminded supplies and Kh. Makoyev, b.1975, who was "the financier' of the so-called Baksan gang," the NAK reported.

They not only supplied weapons and ammunition to militants, but also participated in the extortion of money from business persons. "As a result of the operation, another eight gangsters have been detained," a NAK representative said.
