MOSCOW, March 12 (Itar-Tass) – More than 20 tons of heroin and morphine have been seized in a joint operation staged by the Russian drug police and Afghanistan’s law enforcers in the territory of that country, Viktor Ivanov, the director of the Russian anti-drug authority, said on Tuesday.

“Several drug laboratories were eliminated and some 21 tons of heroin and morphine were seized in a special operation in one of Afghanistan’s provinces,” he said. The operation crowned months-long search conducted jointly with the Afghan police.

“Virtually, it was a year’s volume of heroin deliveries to Russia,” he added.
