PRETORIA, March 11 (Itar-Tass) – Two Russian seafarers and their Romanian colleague were freed from pirate captivity in Nigeria on Monday, March 11.

The ship’s agent, who represents the interests of the owners of the British-flagged ship Esther C, told Itar-Tass that they are feeling fairly well.

The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier identified the captured seafarers as Captain Vinogradov and Chief Engineering Officer Grinev.

Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd. of the United Kingdom, which owns the ship, said in a statement that “the three officers were confirmed as being safe and in good spirits on March 11 after 31 days in captivity.”

The vessel was seized by pirates off Nigeria on February 7.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and our Embassy in Abuja, in close contact with the owner of the ship and Nigerian authorities,” undertook all necessary measures “towards the speediest release of the Esther C crewmembers seized by Nigerian pirates on February 7.”
