MOSCOW, March 9 (Itar-Tass) – President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to relatives of singer Maria Pakhomenko, who died in St Petersburg on March 8, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Itar-Tass.

People’s artist of Russia Maria Pakhomenko died in one of the St Petersburg clinics at the age of 75. Relatives give information on her death.

Parkhomenko was one of the Soviet celebrities. She performed songs of Valery Gavrilin, Eduard Kolmanovsky, Alexandra Pakhmutova, David Tukhmanov, Oskar Feltsman and Yan Frenkel. She gave new life to such songs as Sailor’s Nights of Vasily Solovyov-Sedoy and School Waltz by Isaak Dunayevsky.

Pakhomenko was a laureate of the MIDEM international festival (France, Cannes, 1968). She was awarded with the Golden Orpheus in Bulgaria’s Burgas in 1971. The singer recorded 10 disks and played in six musical films.
