Gunman killed in Dagestan after opening fire at police

MAKHACHKALA, March 5 (Itar-Tass) – Law enforcers killed a gunman who opened gunfire at them in the Kizilyurt district of Russia’s North Caucasian republic of Dagestan, a spokesman for the republican department of the Russian Investigations Committee told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

According to the spokesman, policemen stopped a VAZ-2114 car in the outskirts of the settlement of Matseyevka at about 16:00 Moscow time. The driver opened fire at the policemen. The man was shot dead. None of the police officers was hurt. The identity of the killed gunmen is being established.

A criminal case was opened on charges of assaulting a policeman and illegal possession of arms.
