CHEBOKSARY, March 5 (Itar-Tass) - The Cheboksary district court sentenced former a police officer to 1.5 years for violating traffic rules, which caused a fatal road accident, senior aide to the director of the regional department of the Investigative Committee /SK/ Oleg Dmitriyev said on Tuesday.

The policeman, a rapid response unit officer, was found guilty of "violating traffic rules in a state of alcoholic intoxication and manslaughter."

The accident occurred on a road between the villages of Yaushi and Bolshiye Karachury, Cheboksary district, on September 14, 2012. The policeman who was driving a VAZ-21102 rammed into a Kamaz truck moving ahead. A 37-year-old passenger of VAZ-21102 died of crash-related injuries.
