MOSCOW, March 2 (Itar-Tass) – Russia last year exported 15 billion dollars worth of weapons and military hardware, which is 12 percent above the expected target and two billion dollars more than in 2011, the head of the federal service for military-technical cooperation Alexander Fomin said on Friday.

Russia is the world’s second largest arms exporter after the United States.

Speaking on the Ekho Moskvy radio station, Fomin said that Russia did not export anything significant in military terms from the United States.

For its part it had already supplied 21 helicopters to the US, mostly for the troop contingent in Afghanistan.

“Work is in progress on another twelve. We hope for further cooperation along these lines,” he said.
